You can review the New Employee Enrollment Guide and make benefits selections in Workday. However, we hope that you will meet with one of our Benefit Team members to assist you through the benefits process.
Benefit Enrollment
New employee benefits enrollment is submitted through Workday. You will receive a benefit task in your Workday inbox when your benefit enrollment document is ready for you to complete. Please do not submit new employee benefit enrollment via the Benefits Worklet. The Benefits Worklet can be used after your initial 45 days of employment to make allowable benefit changes based on benefit life change event.
Benefit Coverage Start Date
It is important to know that you can begin coverage effective September 1, but the employer contribution will not begin until the 1st of the month following your 60th day of employment. We encourage you to explore all of your insurance options during this employer contribution waiting period.
Retirement Enrollment
Faculty members have a choice between the Teacher Retirement System of Texas and the Optional Retirement plan. If you have made your one-time irrevocable decision in the State of Texas at another Texas State Institution of Higher Education you will be enrolled in the plan originally chosen. You can read more about the two plans at the TAMUS Retirement Programs website.
Retirement Coverage Start Date
It is mandatory that you participate in one of the retirement plans indicated above. The Teacher Retirement System of Texas deduction will begin with your first check. To enroll in the Optional Retirement System of Texas program you must complete notarized paperwork and Workday enrollment tasks before you hire date.
The first paycheck for the fall semester will be October 1. Faculty with 9-month appointments can elect to have their 9-month salary spread over 12 months by completing the Save for Summer Authorization Form and returning it to the Payroll Office.
