MID YEAR MERIT RAISES
President Killebrew authorized a 2% merit pool for regular faculty and staff. In addition, limited funds are available to address equity and salary compression for faculty and staff.
POSSIBLE HEALTH INSURANCE NETWORK CHANGE
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) and the Hospital Corporation of American (HCA) are negotiating a state-wide contract. If negotiations do not result in a mutually acceptable agreement, HCA will no longer be part of the BCBSTX network effective January 1, 2014. Area HCA hospitals are Corpus Christi Medical Center-Bay Area, Corpus Christi Medical Center-Northwest, Corpus Christi Medical Center-The Heart Hospital and Corpus Christi Center-Doctors Regional.
BCBSTX's goal is to achieve a reasonable outcome and to retain HCA in the provider network. If BCBSTX and HCA to not come to agreement on extending their contract, employees will have access to other hospitals in the area that are part of the BCBSTX network. You can search the PPO provider network by using the BCBSTX Provider Finder link.
Emergency Services are not affected by these negotiations. You can still go to the nearest emergency facility for a condition that would result in a permanent disability or death if the condition were to go untreated. If you go to a non-network emergency facility for non-emergency care, you will receive out-of-network benefits.

Beginning this year, campuses and agencies will be able to provide webinars, classes, biometric screenings, health fairs and other wellness-related activities thanks to grants made available by the Chancellor.
The second part of this initiative centers on ensuring that employees are engaged with their physician. Under this part of the wellness initiative, all covered employees and covered spouses will need to have a wellness exam between January 1, 2013 and June 30, 2014. Beginning September 2014, there will be a $30 premium difference between those who meet this requirement and those who elect not to participate, (i.e., elect not to have a wellness exam). There is no cost to you for the annual wellness exam as long as you visit a network doctor. You will hear more about this program throughout the coming year.
